Learning from GIEP
Author: Anjuli Dasika
Project: iKure | mobile Maternal-Child Health (mMCH)
Year: 2015
Kolkotta, India
As a public health student with an interest to work in India, being a part of GIEP has been an incredible opportunity. Beyond learning about ICT4D (Information and Communication Technology for Development) and the applications of technology for various public health initiatives, GIEP has given me a greater understanding of the challenges of working with client organizations, and how to be realistic about final project deliverables. Many of my expectations have been tempered by the environmental realities of working in a rural setting, and I now realize how important it is to be in India, working and interacting with our partners and communities to determine what is most useful for them. I cannot believe the semester is already coming to a close and we will be leaving for India in three weeks! I am excited to continue this learning process in-country with the end users—the rural Indian communities and Community Health Workers.
